My work has its origins in my visual explorations of Northern Tasmanian roads and highways. Since I could drive I have stopped my car countless times to see what animals have lain dead on and beside Tasmanian roadways. Their bodies form gruesome coastlines bordering the tides of hurried commuters. For a number of years my art practice has involved sketching and photographing these dead animals so as to make them the subjects of my paintings. In these works, the animals are monumentalised, by using ground level viewpoints. I had sought to bring to prominence that which could be missed or only glimpsed through the blur of speed.
